WORSHIP MINISTRY

ALI GILMore, worship Leader

What do you do at Viewpoint?
I am the Worship Leader! I, along with the Viewpoint Worship Band, lead our congregation into worshiping the Lord. We attribute reverent honor and respect to our Father by singing praises to glorify Him. We lead songs that we are FIRED up about, which allow the Holy Spirit to move and open our hearts as He prepares us for the message. I love committing my Sunday mornings to worshiping the Lord, and there is no other place I would rather be. I love worshiping my God!

What is your spiritual background?
I come from a big Italian Catholic family. But although I was raised Catholic, I did not go to church very often while growing up. But I always felt I had a strong purpose and that purpose was from God.

When I was 22, after going through a dark time, by the grace of God I stumbled upon a church where I became part of the worship team in two weeks. There, God showed Himself to me through my community of friends and He began a work inside of my heart. He saved me from going down a path of destruction and He sent me on a mission—a mission to lead His people in worship for the rest of my life. That is when I asked God into my heart and gave my whole life to Him.

Full surrender. I chose to be all in. I knew from the first time I worshiped at church that this was my calling from God.

What are you passionate about?
Music! Performing! When I was 5 years old my parents put me in piano lessons, and at 6 years I started performing in semi-professional musical theater productions and local commercials for almost 15 years.

God has given me a NEW passion for playing the keys and singing as I lead worship, which has led me to be an aspiring worship songwriter. I want to write worship songs, sing them, record them, and hopefully one day, show up on your Spotify playlist!

Whatever God has for me, I am running after it. Pray that God would bless me as I glorify Him through music, and not get discouraged!

YOUTH MINISTRY / INVOLVEMENT COORDINATOR

Michelle Sargent, involvement coordinator & High School Director

What do you do at Viewpoint?
I help people get and stay connected to the Viewpoint community and coordinate our Sunday services to make sure everything runs smoothly and efficiently! I also oversee and run our Student Ministry (High School and Middle School). We have monthly gatherings, where we worship, pray and have bible studies that follow along with our Daily Bible Readings. My dream is to help our students understand their identity in Christ and build their faith on a solid foundation, knowing how much God loves them and that he has an extraordinary purpose for their lives for they are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of Christ.

What is your spiritual background?
I lived most of my life trying to find something or someone that could fill the void I had in my heart, which only led me down a path of drug abuse and addiction. It wasn’t until I accepted an invitation to church in 2019 that I felt the love of God for the first time in my adult life. This made a forever impression that saved my life. I grew up without a relationship with Christ, and today it’s my most precious, loving relationship. God saved me from myself and showed me a way to live a life filled with prayer, sobriety, and serving our community.

What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about Jesus, Youth Ministry and serving our community! Currently I am working on my undergraduate degree in Theology and working with Viewpoint Church High School students. I have a huge passion for youth ministry and truly advocating for our young generation. Jesus calls us to a higher standard of living, and it can be hard to stand firm in our faith without a solid foundation. I want to teach and help our students build a biblical foundation at a young age, so they grow closer to God now, as well as into their young adult lives.

Evan Fredericks, youth staff & worship Team

What do you do at Viewpoint?

I am the Youth and Worship leader at Viewpoint Church. I lead worship for the High School Ministry and work along side Michelle Sargent to help cultivate a generation that is seeking a right relationship with God.

What is your spiritual background?

I grew up in the church and spent my early years attending Calvary Christian School from kindergarten to eighth grade. I found my foundation in Christ studying His Word and reading books like Case For Christ by Lee Strobel at a young age. I felt it was important to know how to defend my faith and by learning how to do so confidently in my youth I have been able to stand strong in what I believe for all these years.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about many things, including music, but more importantly worship. I have been leading worship since I was in sixth grade, and have had a heart set on it ever since. I’m passionate about teaching and have spent many years as a youth volleyball coach, guitar teacher, and golf instructor. I’m looking forward to bringing these two passions together as I begin to grow a youth worship team for Viewpoint High School Ministry.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

Ryan Montague, family pastor

What do you do at Viewpoint?

Hey! I am the Family Pastor here at Viewpoint Church. I have the honor of overseeing the Children's Ministry (ages 0-12 years old), resourcing and connecting the parents of Viewpoint, and working alongside Sarah, our incredible Children's Director. I also co-lead Ignite, our 20's and 30's crew, with the amazing Ali Gilmore—our Worship Leader. Ignite is a dynamic and inspiring group of young professionals doing life together as they passionately seek the Lord in His fullness and righteousness. I also have the privilege of preaching the Word of God twice a month to our beautiful congregation. I pray to continuously stir our VP family to love and do good deeds.

What is your spiritual background?

I grew up Catholic in Kansas City, MO, doing all the things: attending Catholic grade school, first communion, altar boy, confirmation, and weekly Sunday mass. At the age of 23, I moved to Hollywood with a friend who invited me to attend church with him on the west side of LA, and it was there that I experienced God firsthand and developed a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

This experience changed everything for me and put me on a path of continually surrendering more and more of my life to Jesus Christ. This journey took me from exploring LA's entertainment scene to pursuing a master's degree in Communication at Cal State Northridge to becoming a college professor. I then returned to the University of Missouri for a Ph.D. and finally settled at Azusa Pacific University as a professor for 10 years.

During that time at APU, God was continually drawing me closer to Him, which led to a transformational encounter with the Holy Spirit in 2017 that dramatically shifted my priorities, focus, and pursuit of all things Christ. And that has continued to this day.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about:

- Leading a generation of people to experience God in a way that transforms their hearts, renews their minds, and completely changes their lives. Christ's love, devotion, and grace are so phenomenal that I don't want anyone to miss out.

- The Word of God. The depth of revelation and the powerful insights in the Bible are incredible; they anchor our souls. The Word of God is mind-blowing, and I love sharing my excitement about it with anyone who listens.

- The Holy Spirit and the indwelling power of God. I had an encounter with the Holy Spirit in 2017 that forever changed my life, and I love opportunities to encourage others to seek more of God's Spirit.

- I love being part of a local church family and doing life with my brothers and sisters in Christ as we grow, learn, laugh, and play together as the body of Christ.

- Finally, I'm passionate about my wife (Debra) and kids (David, Makenna, and Bella)! I love being married and having a family so much that my wife and I launched a nonprofit ministry to work with Christian singles to overcome loneliness and frustration and lead them toward a godly marriage!

SARAH DOTY, director CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

What do you do a Viewpoint? I am the Children’s Ministry Director. My job is to oversee the entire children’s ministry to ensure a smoothly operating, safe and effective program for our little ones. I create a Bible-based curriculum for Sunday School that follows along with the Change Your Life Daily Bible Readings (which the entire church reads through weekly).

I coordinate with and train volunteers whose job it is to watch and teach children God’s Word, provide safe fellowship and lay a foundation of learning and excitement to keep them passionate and interested in learning about the character of God, to feel the Holy Spirit and to become more like Jesus.

What is your spiritual background? I grew up in a loving Christian home, and was enrolled in both Christian HS (Toledo Christian High School) and Christian college (Olivet Nazarene University). However, in my 20s, like the parable of the lost sheep, I lost my way, and turned away from God (Matthew 18: 10-14).

But my story doesn’t end there...our loving, gracious Father God left the 99 to come find me and bring me home! My story of renewal can be summed up by the chorus from the song “Reckless Love” by Cory Asbury....

“Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God...

Oh, it chases me down, fights til Im found, leaves the 99...

I couldn’t earn it. I don’t deserve it, still you give yourself away....

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God“

I thank God every day for calling me home to him. My life story will forever be one of renewal, joy, peace and hope.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about living a “set apart” life according to the living, breathing Word of God, and to grow my personal and intimate relationship with Jesus—daily dying to myself and looking to the cross for my future. Within that I am specifically passionate about advocating and helping children. Here’s why God has called me to minister to our church children:

  1. Because children matter to God! In fact, they matter so much that He encourages us, as grown-ups, to become like them if we expect to participate in the Kingdom of God.

  2. Because children need to learn about God too, and this happens through REAL people, who are willing to live out the love of Jesus before their eyes. Kiddos need to see adults within church living for Jesus, giving their time serving and that will consistently build loving, trusted relationships with them. Kids need relationships with Christ following adults who know their names, know their passions and enjoy being around them and make them feel special!

  3. Because I believe investing in children the best investment we can make as a part of our church community. If a child accepts Christ early in life, they are more likely to continue to live a sanctified life their entire lives, and to live in freedom, joy and peace.

  4. And lastly, because they are our future! Imagine where the church and our nation will be in 10-15 years if we steward and shepherd our little ones to be future leaders of ministry and support them in becoming on fire for Jesus!? That’s a world I'm passionate about supporting.
